Jobs at Apogee

By Edwin

A lot of people ask how to start working for Apogee Communications. It’s simple. Be very, very good at what you do.

TRANSLATORS

We’re always looking for translators. What we want are almost always English fluent, native speakers of other languages. We strongly prefer that you currently live where your native language is spoken. We require that you be a professional translator—this is a job, not a hobby. Don’t ask to work for us if you just think it’s cool to put words in Darth Vader’s mouth. A lot more work will go into boring copyright statements and endless user profile questions for videogame websites. This is a job. And we generally hire people who have a long track record of handling translations in other (more boring) industries.

That said, we do ask that you have a background in games. Not that you’ve worked in the videogame industry (though that would be fine, too), but that you play and enjoy videogames. If you need to ask what a Death Star or an Orc is, you should send your resume to our competitors instead. Don’t waste our time.

To apply to work at Apogee, please send us an email. The subject line should be *blank* translator, where you give your translation language pair, such as Korean -> English. Send us a copy of your CV with recent translation work completed and two references. Also send us what videogame systems you’ve played on, what games you have played and what cellphone games you may have played as well. Let us know what cellphone you have.

TRANSLATORS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

We’re looking for translators in Southern California. Anyone we hire here locally will not be part of our primary translation group, but can perform the tasks of minor proofreading or product testing. We prefer translators living in the San Diego or Riverside areas, but are also interested people living in Los Angeles. Again, please send a CV with your translation pair, and make sure we know where you live.

GRAPHIC ARTISTS

Please send us a link to your online portfolio, as well as a CV of any recent sales you may have done with your work. We need to know what platform you work on (PC or Mac, we don’t care), which software versions you are working on (i.e., not just Photoshop, but Photoshop CS3) and anything else that you might think we need to know.

SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS, PROGRAMMERS, TECHIES IN GENERAL

Yes, we do need you guys occasionally. My personal hobby is running Linux servers with Open Source software. This blog and website are both done by me, without outside help. Sometimes, however, we actually have to do something for clients, in which case it needs to look way more professional than this. Please send us your CV’s as well, along with links to your most recent projects.

PROJECT COORDINATORS

We’re on the lookout for Project Coordinators. In particular, we’re looking for people living in the Far East and Europe who can handle sort email between translators as they go from translation stage to proofing stage back to us here in Southern California. Again, send a CV with your interest to us.

The address to send all of these to is contact (at) apogeecommunications.com

QUALITY

We strive for the highest possible quality in our services. As long as quality is kept high, all other problems are manageable.
